What is Ubisoft’s Hyper Scape Battle Royale?
Hyper Scape is an open beta, three-player squad or solo, battle royale style game that offers a subtle, yet new, twist on the ever-popular game mode genre, battle royale elimination. Hyper Scape is available only on P.C. but will be coming to consoles later in the summer of 2020. Anyone with an Uplay Ubisoft account will be allowed access. Hyper Scape currently offers a free battle pass, which we assume will change in a paid battle pass once it comes out of the beta stage.
Hyper Scape is an urban futuristic free-to-play Battle Royale where 100 Contenders engage in FPS close-quarters and fast-paced matches to become the next global superstar. Battle royale fight your way in an urban setting through the seven unique districts of Neo Arcadia. Neo Arcadia is a virtual city that features imposing landmarks that bring verticality to the next level.
Hyper Scape starts the same as many other battle royale games do, with 100 players fighting to be the last gamer standing. The map consists of a futuristic city layout comprised of 99 districts. These 99 districts randomly degrade over time in isolated sections, randomly chosen, with players not knowing which districts will be selected next to decay suddenly. When they degrade, all of the city infrastructure within that district crumbles, leaving no cover for players to hide. Eventually, the entire map becomes entirely open, leaving the remaining players exposed and vulnerable.

Hyper Scape: Limited-Time Game Mode | Hack Runner Trailer
Hyper Scape Offers a New Spin on Traditional Battle Royale Mode.
The objective of Hyper Scape is obviously to win, but there is an alternative objective, the Crown. The Crown is an aspect that may appeal to those who are turned off by battle royale style games because of the final Showdown when a player is forced to shoot their way to the win. In Hyper Scape, a Crown spawns randomly somewhere on the map when the player count drops below a certain number. The winner of the match is not the last person standing, but the person who can hold on to the Crown for longer than 45 seconds.
The Crown may be significant in concept, but the reality is, the battle royale aspect goes out the window, and the game becomes a horde mode after a single person with the Crown. This concept is still new, so adaptations over time will dictate the direction this game will be going. There still is hope that the Crown aspect will remain relevant down the road. Technically, Hyper Scape is not an actual battle royale style game because of the Crown. The traditional premise behind a battle royale game is one player is left standing when the match is over. With Hyper Scape, multiple players can still be alive when the match has ended, and a winner has been declared.
Another interesting twist of Hyper Scape is if you happen to die while playing the three-person squad mode. If one of your teammates is still alive, you and your character can roam the entire map as a ghost while in Echo mode. Players who have been eliminated from the match remain in the game through Echo mode and can help their teammates. Downed players can wander ahead to locate much-needed loot, scout out the enemy, and find better weapons for their teammates in the game.
Echo mode is such an excellent feature; it will be only a matter of time until other battle royale style games integrate it into their model. On top of Echo mode, the spot a player dies becomes a restore where their teammates still in the game can bring them back alive. There is a waiting period, and the revived player will not respawn with any gear or loot. However, there is no timed expiration when a downed teammate can be revised and brought back into the match.
Taking Hyper Scape Further | Twitch Integration
Ubisoft has introduced Twitch integration with Hyper Scape that allows streamers and viewers to interact with one another via the Twitch extension, Crowncast. When a Streamer installs the Crowncast extension into their Twitch channel, it will enable viewers to
- Vote for events
- Check the current match stats in real-time
- View the Streamer’s loadout in real-time
- View details on the streamers Battle Pass progression in real-time
- The ability for viewers to obtain one exclusive Champion outfit

Viewer Battle Pass Progression
At the end of a streamer’s match, viewers will have access to a scoring screen displaying their in-game Battle Pass progression earned after watching.
To take advantage of this feature, viewers will have to
- Connect their Twitch channel to their Ubisoft account
- Grant access to the Twitch Crowncast extension
- When watching an extension-enabled Hyper Scape stream on Twitch, be sure to click the ‘CLAIM’ button at the end of each match.
On the Twitch Crowncast extension, there are three types of interactions displayed within the Match Rewards screen that will contribute to a viewer’s Battle Pass progression.
- How many events you voted for during a match
- How much time you watched a match
- How many consecutive days a viewer watched a match
If viewers watch extension-enabled Hyper Scape streams on Twitch for long periods, there is a daily limit to the rewards a viewer can earn. When viewers reach this cap for a given day, they will no longer receive progression on their Hyper Scape Battle Pass. The cap will reset the next day, allowing the Viewer to earn progress toward their Battle Pass again while watching the Streamer.
Subscriber Squad Invites via Crowncast
Note: Subscribers must have the game installed and running on their P.C. to be eligible for a sub squad invite alert.
Up to two subscribers can be allowed to join a Streamer through the Crowncast extension for Twitch. When the feature is enabled, a streamer can alert subscribers and/or followers via Crowncast to apply within the Twitch extension for the chance to join the streamers squad via the extension’s raffle style feature. The information of the winner(s) is provided to the Streamer on their screen:
- Twitch username
- Ubisoft username
- Subscription tier (none, tier 1, tier 2 or tier 3)
- Current latency
- I.P. address of the Viewer
- Ping
To invite the Subscriber(s), the Streamers will need to
- Go into their “PLAY” portal.
- Click on the “STREAM” tab.
- Click on the tile “INVITE VIEWERS.”
The Subscriber(s) are then able to join the Streamer through an invitation sent within the Crowncast Extention. Once the system has confirmed the Subscriber(s) joined the Streamer, the other Subscribers are alerted within Crowncast that the Streamer’s squad is full.
Subscriber and Viewer Interactive Contender Voting
Subscribers and viewers can vote for up to eight different in-game and game-wide events that impact real-time gameplay for all Contenders in a match.
The first four events can be activated at any time during a Hyper Scape match from Subscriber and viewer real-time interactive voting.
- Supply crate drop
- Health kit spawn
- Abilities cooldown acceleration
- Extra high double jump
The additional four events can be activated at regular intervals during a Hyper Scape match from Subscriber and viewer real-time interactive voting.
- The low gravity ability
- The Reveal Hack
- The Haste Hack
- Infinite ammo
Viewers and Subscribers have 45 seconds to vote for the event they would like. At the end of the interactive voting period, all votes are tallied up, and the event with the most votes plays out within the match. The winning events are triggered during a live match of Hyper Scape.
To even the playing field, if a Hyper Scape match has more than one Twitch Streamer playing in it, those Streamer’s votes get combined into a single group of votes as not to overshadow the none Streamer players within the match.
- Regular viewer votes count one for one
- Stream Subscriber (tier 1, 2 or 3) votes count three to one
Subscriber and Viewer Access to Real-time Streamer Match Statistics
Subscribers and Viewers can see a Streamer’s loadout at any given time during a match. They also have access to:
- Streamer’s current match status
- Percentage of sectors closed so far
- Number of eliminations the Streamer has
- Real-time match ranking of the Streamer
Hyper Scape Weapons and Loadouts
Overall, Hyper Scape’s weapons are relatively weak, especially when not upgraded. Good weapons tend to be hard to come by. Even upgrading weak weapons is tough. There is supposed to be a rare chance a player could find a fully upgraded and leveled weapon, but this is extremely rare and highly unlikely from our experiences.

Hyper Scape: Open Beta Update & Patch v0.4 Overview
Health and Regenerating Health
Unlike other battle royale mode games, your character can heal itself back to 100% over a while. More or less a positive aspect, but the way and how your health is regenerated after taking damage does go both ways. Your enemy has this ability also. Players will notice after a good headshot or a few clean body shots; your opponent will most likely scurry away to regain health. This is slightly frustrating, especially with one on one gun battles. Seldomly one person is walking away with the kill and feeling victorious.
The Ultimate Guide to Hyper Scape Hacks
Ability Hacks, In-Game Upgrades, Looting
Ubisoft decided to label their in-game lootable abilities upgrades as Hacks. Hacks are more or less equivalent to soda in PUBG and shield potion in Fortnite. You can only have two Hacks equipped during the match, but you can change these out as you see fit during the match and as you find new loot. Unlike Apex Legends or Overwatch, where you select and are obligated an ability/skill/role specific character from the start, Hyper Scape allows you to switch during the game depending on the loot you find or what your squad needs at that moment.
Hyper Scape Ability Hack Details
Armor Ability Hack
Armor sounds like a great Hack by not taking in any damage when active, but a lass, it is not. When Armor is activated, you cannot shoot, ads, or use your other ability. Again, a Hack that allows you to run away and doesn’t promote engagement.
Ball Ability Hack
The Ball is a Hack that puts your character inside a sphere and allows them to roll away from problem areas very quickly. It would be nice if Ball would run over enemies, instead of enemies popping this Hack as you roll away.
Heal Ability Hack
The Heal Hack is the best Hack to obtain as it allows you to heal your character and your team instantly, without having to wait for health regeneration to occur.
Invisibility Ability Hack
Invisibility makes your character invisible, but it’s lost as soon as you shoot your weapon. Also, other players can hear you, along with your footsteps, triggering the audio H.U. alert. The positive to the Invisibility Hack is does increase your mobility and speed when using it. Invisibility also makes your character completely invisible. Other than footsteps, there is no way for your opponent to know you are coming up on them or running away from them.
Mine Ability Hack
Mine went from the least useful Hack at first to the Hack everyone is now using currently in Hyper Scape. The Mine Hack in Hyper Scape is very similar to the Roller Mines in The Division. The ability was brought into the game more as a distraction so players could flee from danger. Unfortunately, Mine is so effective at what it does, basically, it doesn’t stop until it comes in contact with an enemy player. , as it does only minimal damage. The only real effective use for Mine is to drop it while being chased, hopping your enemy trips over it.
Reveal Ability Hack
The Reveal Hack is almost as useless as Mine. When playing Hyper Scape in its current state, camping is not a method players are adopting. Your enemy is out in the open and easily found. Why waste a Hack ability slot with Reveal when you could put something else in it to help you?
Shockwave Ability Hack
Shockwave is a ground punch ability that allows your character to slam the ground, which flings nearby enemies off into the distance. The downside to Shockwave is the lack of damage it causes to your enemies. If they are close enough, there is always a slight risk your enemy would kill you before you could use this ability.
Slam Ability Hack
Slam is equivalent to what Thanos was in Fortnite but on a smaller scale, of course. The Slam Hack allows your character to jump high into the air and slam down with a ton of force to inflict damage or kill your enemies. Slam also allows players to aim and shoot other players from high up in the sky.
Teleport Ability Hack
Once again, another Hack that helps you runaway, although this is the best escape Hack in Hyper Scape. Simply aim to where you want to teleport and boom! You are out of there.
Wall Ability Hack
Wall Hack allows a player to build similar to what building is used for in Fortnite. Quickly create a wall to block or provide cover against your enemy.
Hyper Scape allows players to upgrade a given Hack four times by picking up more of them. The upgrades come in a reduced cooldown and extending the duration of the Hack ability. Hack upgrades are not that easy to come by during the game, making looting a fruitless endeavor at times.
Overall, Hyper Scape Hack abilities need to fined tuned to promote a better balance within the game. Only having ten Hacks does not allow for much customization, although many of the other battle royale mode games that require looting for abilities do not have much more than ten in their abilities pool.
BEST Weapons + Hacks Guide! Tips & Tricks for Hyper Scape
Participating in the Hyper Scape Open Beta Rewards
It has been said that all players participating in the open beta of Hyper Scape are going to be allowed to keep all the rewards from the free 30 tier Battle Pass. These rewards will be exclusive to those who helped test during the open beta phase. However, HYper Scape is in the beta stage, and things could be found, yet that prevents the rewards from going into the live version. Or, Ubisoft could accidentally hit the delete button. Still, never the less, as of now, any rewards earned during the open beta period remain with the players who helped test Hyper Scape in its infancy.
Hyper Scape Open Beta Review Conclusion
Overall, Hyper Scape does have good potential to become the next MMO Battle Royale game everyone is playing. It’s still way too early to tell, and this game is sitting on the faultline of being remarkable and total trash. The balancing across the board needs to be honed, as the weapons and Hack abilities are nowhere near production-level readiness yet. If Hyper Scape did not have solid concepts in theory backing it up right now, I would rule it out very quickly as a loss, as the game stands today. I would say it does not have a traditional Battle Royal feel to it. With the holder fo the Crown determining the winner of a match, Hyper Scape truly is not a Battle Royal mode video game.
We suggest any gamer to test out and play Hyper Scape because it is free, and it has some excellent proof of concepts within it, and it’s something new.
Good luck, and let us know what you think of Hyper Scape.
